Address L1 (Malayalam) Interference: Specifically target common pronunciation, grammar, and vocabulary errors made by Malayalam speakers.

Course Structure: Levels & Modules

The course should ideally be divided into levels, allowing students to start where they are most comfortable. An initial assessment (oral and written) would determine the appropriate level.


Level 1: Foundation & Everyday English (Beginner to Low-Intermediate)

Target Audience: Students with very limited or no prior spoken English experience, those who understand some English but hesitate to speak, and those needing to build basic confidence.

Module 1: Building Blocks of Communication

Greetings & Introductions: Formal and informal.

Self-Introduction: Name, age, place, profession/studies, hobbies.

Basic Vocabulary: Numbers, colors, days, months, family, common objects.

Simple Sentence Structures: Subject-verb-object.

Common Phrases: "Please," "Thank you," "Excuse me," "Sorry."

Pronunciation Focus (Kerala Specific): Distinguishing 'V' and 'W' sounds (e.g., 'vest' vs 'west'). Pronunciation of 'th' sounds (voiced and unvoiced). Softening of 'T', 'P', 'K' sounds often hardened by Malayalam influence. Correct pronunciation of 'o' and 'a' sounds (e.g., 'cost' vs 'coast', 'hot' vs 'hotel').

Module 2: Talking About Daily Life

Describing People, Places, and Things: Adjectives and simple descriptive sentences.

Asking & Giving Directions: Prepositions of place.

Shopping & Ordering Food: Basic transactional English.

Talking About Hobbies & Interests.

Basic Questions (Wh-questions): Who, what, where, when, why.

Pronunciation Focus: Vowel sounds, common confusing pairs.

Module 3: Simple Conversations & Socializing

Making & Responding to Simple Requests.

Talking About Future Plans: Will, going to, Present Continuous for future.

Expressing Obligations & Permissions: Modals (can, could, should, must, might).

Giving Advice & Suggestions.
